Admission
Requirements
Admission to Graduate Programs
Students holding B.S.
degrees are eligible to apply for M.S. programs, and those holding M.S.
degrees are eligible to apply for Ph.D. programs offered by the Institutes
of Bogazici University.
- Requirements for Admission
to Nuclear Engineering M.S. Program:
- An undergraduate grade
point average of 2.40/4.00.
- Proof of English Proficiency.
All applicants
are required to take an entrance examination in their own subject,
given by the department they are applying to, in September and/or
February.
- Requirements for Admission
to Nuclear Engineering Ph.D. Program:
- An M.A./M.S. grade point
average of 3.20/4.00.
- Proof of English Proficiency
All applicants
are required to take an entrance examination in their own subject,
given by the department they are applying to, in September and/or
February.
- English Language Requirement
for Admission to Graduate Programs:
Applicants who have
failed BUEPT, but have been succesfull in their "subject" exam
and are proposed by the executive committee of the relevant Institute,
are admitted to the English Language Program for one year only. These
students may start their gra duate studies upon successful completion
of their English Language programs. Students applying in January will
not be admitted to the English Language Programs.
- Documents Required for
Application:
- Official transcripts,
sent directly to Bogazici University Office of the Registrar by the University
the applicant has graduated from. The documents should include all the courses
taken and all the grades received throughout the applicant's undergraduate
and/or M.A./M.S. programs.
- Two reference letters
from persons familiar with the applicant's academic performance.
- An official document
indicating the applicant's disciplinary record at the University he/she has
graduated from. (only when applying from a Turkish University)
- Photocopy of the diploma.
- LES score card (GMAT
or GRE score card for students coming from abroad).
- Evidence of proficiency
in English.
- Admission as a Special
Student
- The student must have
been admitted to a University or an Institution of Higher Education, and his/her
academic background must be of a standard suitable for the courses he/she
is to attend at Bogazici University.
- The student must not
have been dismissed from a University or an Institution of Higher Education
for any reason.
- The student must provide
a document for English Proficiency.
All applicants are required
to provide proof of English Proficiency
before their application forms are accepted. These students should have taken
one of the tests listed below and obtained the minimum scores indicated.
TESTS
BUEPT (Bogazici University
English Proficiency Test)
Min.Score: 60
This test is
given by the Bogazici Universty School of Foreign Languages (YADYOK)
several times a year. Inquiries concerning the dates of BUEPT should
be made directly at YADYOK. BUEPT score is valid for two years.
USA: TOEFL (Test of
English as a Foreign Language)
Min. Score: 213 in computer-based
or 550 (with TWE: 4.5) in paper-based TOEFL
This test is
given several times a year in many countries and its score is valid
for two years. TOEFL result is accepted only with a TWE section.
UK: IELTS Test (International
English Language Testing System)
Min. Score: 7
This test is
given by the British Council and its score is valid for two years.
Master
of Science Program
The M.S. program
in Nuclear Engineering comprises a minimum of 24 credits of course work and
a Master's thesis. In addition to the 24 credits, two non-credit courses of
a preparatory or complementary nature are also included in the program; these
courses may either be courses
offered in Nuclear Engineering or
related courses offered by the Institute. The total number of credits includes
12 credits of required courses and, 12 credits of elective courses to be chosen
from the courses offered by the program or the Institute, subject to the approval
of the advisor.
Doctor of Philosophy Program
The Ph.D. program in Nuclear
Engineering is composed of a minimum number of 24 credits of course work, planned
under the supervision of an advisor, from the courses offered by the program
or the Institute, and a Ph.D. thesis carried out according to the regulations
of the Institute.
